Internal Family Systems (IFS)

What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based therapy that views the mind as made up of different “parts.” You might already recognize this in yourself—one part of you wants change, while another part feels afraid; one part is critical, while another longs for freedom.

IFS teaches us that all parts have value, even the ones that seem difficult. By getting to know these parts with compassion, you can begin to understand their role, heal their burdens, and create more balance and harmony within yourself.

How IFS Works

IFS therapy invites you to:

  1. Identify and listen to your parts and their stories
  2. Understand their roles—whether protective, wounded, or critical
  3. Heal and unburden parts that carry pain or trauma
  4. Reintegrate them into your inner system so you feel more whole and at peace

The process is gentle, non-pathologizing, and empowering. Instead of trying to “get rid of” parts of yourself, we honor them, listen deeply, and allow them to transform.

Benefits of IFS

  • Many clients find that IFS helps them:
  • Develop deeper self-awareness and self-trust
  • Improve emotional regulation and resilience
  • Cultivate greater self-compassion
  • Heal from trauma and painful memories
  • Strengthen relationships by understanding their patterns
  • Feel more confident, balanced, and authentic

IFS and Psychedelic Therapy

IFS can be powerful on its own, or it can be paired with Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). In KAP sessions, parts often emerge more vividly, and IFS provides a supportive framework for working with them safely and meaningfully.

Who Can Benefit

IFS may be especially helpful for individuals struggling with:

  • Trauma (including complex or developmental trauma)
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Relationship challenges
  • Low self-esteem or inner criticism
  • A desire for deeper personal growth

My Role as Your Guide

As your therapist, I hold space for your inner exploration and help you connect with your Self—the calm, compassionate center that IFS teaches is always within you. From this place, healing and integration naturally unfold.

“IFS is a loving way of relating internally (to your parts) and externally (to the people in your life), so in that sense, IFS is a life practice, as well. It’s something you can do on a daily, moment-to-moment basis-at any time, by yourself or with others.” -Richard C. Schwartz
